Software Development at Neutron Scattering Sources

In October 1994, representatives of all the major U.S. neutron scattering laboratories met at Argonne National Laboratory in order to discuss future software development for the analysis and visualization of neutron data. The primary goal of the first Workshop on Software Development at Neutron Scattering Sources (SoftNeSS'94) was to explore the scope for increasing the efficiency of our software effort through improved communication and cooperation between the U.S. facilities. Such cooperation has increased in importance with the rapid pace of change in computing environments and the limitations on our manpower resources to address these issues. One of the main recommendations of SoftNeSS'94 was that a common data format should be developed. The details of this format, now named NeXus, have been developed at two other workshops, SoftNeSS'95 and SoftNeSS'96. Please refer to the NeXus Home Page for more details.
