Just a reminder that ESRF and ILL are organising a workshop on:

"Environmental Studies Using Neutron and Synchrotron Facilities"
                        20-21 February, ILL Grenoble, France.
http://www.esrf.fr/conferences/usersmeeting01/environment/index.html

Of course the environment of Grenoble is particularly attractive in
February (and it is the best time for skiing :-) But there are some very
real applications of neutron and synchrotron radiation to questions
relating to the environment.

The topics covered will include: pollution, energy, industrial processing
and biosphere applications. For example J. Parise and others will be
talking about ion-exchangers and catalysts, important for purification and
chemical processing. G. Fioni and others with speak on nuclear
transmutation, activation analysis, X-ray spectroscopic analysis... K. Yvon
and others will describe new kinds of batteries and in-situ X-ray and
neutron studies of electro-chemistry.

But appropriately we will also have talks from W. Kuhs and others about ice
and snow ! The full programme and registration forms are available on the
above WWW pages.
