| Abstract Submission |
|
We encourage all contributors to the workshop to submit an abstract by June 1, 2003, using the Diffuse Workshop LaTeX template file and the online entry form below. Please follow the instructions, referring to the LaTeX help page if you need further guidance.

|
| Steps in Submitting an Abstract |
The following is a step-by-step guide to submitting an abstract.
- Download the ASCII template file template.tex using the links below.
- Open the file in any text editor and fill in the arguments to the LaTeX commands that define the title, authors, addresses, and contact details. Detailed instructions are contained in the template file or on our LaTeX Help Page.
- Insert the text of the abstract in the space provided in the template file. This text can contain any valid LaTeX formatting instructions to produce subscripts, superscripts, Greek characters, bold and/or italic letters etc.
- Preview the abstract, either by using the preview form on this web page, or by downloading the LaTeX class file confabs.cls and formatting the file locally. Check that the contact information has been filled in, and that the text of the abstract does not extend below the horizontal rule. Typical lengths are 150-250 words depending on the number of author and address lines.
- When you are sure the abstract is ready for submission, submit it either using the web form below or sending the LaTeX file as an e-mail message to <ROsborn@anl.gov>. Once the file has been submitted, it will be stored in PDF form and may be downloaded for printing. Confirmation of receipt will be sent by email to the contact email address specifed in the abstract.
- The abstract may be viewed using the Abstract Review form below. You need the abstract number, username, and password sent in the email confirmation if you want to edit the abstract, so please keep a record of this information.

| Abstract Files |
It is essential that the abstracts are prepared by editing the template file described here, i.e. it is not sufficient that the abstract is written in LaTeX; it must also contain the formatting instructions that are found in the template file.
The following ASCII files are available for download :
- template.tex
- This is the abstract template. It contains a number of LaTeX commands that define the title, authors, addresses, and contact information. Edit this file in any text editor and fill in the command arguments with the requested information, following the instructions contained within the file itself. There is space for the insertion of the abstract text, using, if necessary, standard LaTeX formatting commands.
If you are new to LaTeX, the following link gives more detailed help with filling in the template file, including how to do some simple LaTeX formatting, e.g. how to write bold characters, subscripts, Greek letters etc.
- example.tex
- This is an an abstract prepared using the above template file. It shows examples of multiple authors and addresses, as well as a footnote.
- confabs.cls
- This is the LaTeX document class file that defines the abstract format for the conference. It is only necessary to download this file if you wish to preview and print your abstract on your home computer. Ensure that it is in the same directory as the abstract file.

| Abstract Preview |
If your browser supports file uploads (e.g. Netscape and Internet Explorer v3 or greater), you can use the following form to process the LaTeX file containing your abstract, display it in your browser, and produce a PDF file that you can download for printing locally. Just type in the LaTeX file name or click the Browse button to select the file.
If the LaTeX formatting is successful, you will see an image of the formatted text on your browser screen. A link is provided so that you can download the PDF file that produced it. If the formatting is not successful, follow the link to the log file to look for any errors.
The preview will only work if the abstract has been prepared using the LaTeX template file described above. If the text of the abstract extends below the horizontal rule, it is too long. If the output is not satisfactory for any other reason, inspect the log file for possible error messages.

| Abstract Submission |
Once you are satisified that the abstract is ready, there are two methods of submitting the abstract.
- If your browser does not support file uploads, send it by e-mail to <ROsborn@anl.gov>. Make Diffuse Workshop Abstract the subject of the message, and make the LaTeX code containing the abstract the body of the message.
- If your browser supports file uploads, submit the abstract using the following form.
N.B. you must press the "Confirm Submission" button at the bottom of the abstract preview.
An e-mail acknowledging receipt of the abstract will be sent to the e-mail address of the contact specified in the abstract file, i.e. by the \contactemail command.
